Adam Shishin Lintz

My dear friend Pedro and I were discussing the marvels of cultivating appreciation for experiencing life with the quality of "as it is". As my practice unfolds there seems to be less a compulsive need for pushing and pulling, of grasping and averting. Displacing much of this pushing and pulling is a profound sense of trust; and in that trust, a clarity in awareness that brings a degree of contentment that seems ineffable. These two quotes came up in our conversation. I wanted to share them and wish you all profound and unconditioned happiness... "As it is, we are merely bolting our lives—gulping down undigested experiences as fast as we can stuff them in—because awareness of our own existence is so superficial and so narrow that nothing seems to us more boring than simple being. If I ask you what you did, saw, heard, smelled, touched and tasted yesterday, I am likely to get nothing more than the thin, sketchy outline of the few things that you noticed, and of those only what you thought worth remembering. Is it surprising that an existence so experienced seems so empty and bare that its hunger for an infinite future is insatiable? But suppose you could answer, “It would take me forever to tell you, and I am much too interested in what’s happening now.” How is it possible that a being with such sensitive jewels as the eyes, such enchanted musical instruments as the ears, and such a fabulous arabesque of nerves as the brain can experience itself as anything less than a god? And, when you consider that this incalculably subtle organism is inseparable from the still more marvelous patterns of its environment—from the minutest electrical designs to the whole company of the galaxies—how is it conceivable that this incarnation of all eternity can be bored with being?” Alan Watts, On the Taboo Against Knowing Who You Are "Even the most exalted states and most exceptional spiritual accomplishments are unimportant if we cannot be happy in the most basic and ordinary ways, if we cannot touch one another and the life we have been given with our hearts." - Jack Kornfield, A Path With Heart

Hilarious animation shows how it's not fun being a skeleton

These are great. Gentleman Scholar made these amusing animations called The Trials and Tribulations of Being a Skeleton and it shows how daily life--like sports and gravity and puberty and first days--for a skeleton isn't a lot of fun. Watch them, they're quick and easily digestible and easy to laugh at.

Video: How braces can amazingly straighten crooked teeth

Getting braces for crooked teeth is one of our society's accepted forms of self torture for the sake of vanity. It's completely painful and done in a terribly awkward stage in life but it's worth it in the end, not just for the sight of straight teeth but for the pure functionality of improving the bite (or so they say). Here's the entire process.

Compare Yourself to the "Old You" Instead of Others to Keep Positive

When you're working hard to change a habit, develop a skill, or achieve a personal goal, it's hard not to compare yourself to others. Doing so can bring you down or breed hateful thoughts, however, so you're better off comparing yourself to someone you know you've surpassed: the old you.

From my point of view all things originate with the mind. The quality of our actions depends on our motivation. A real appreciation of humanity, compassion, and love are crucial to this. Whether we work in science, agriculture, or politics, if we’re good hearted about it, our contribution will be positive.

A first-grade teacher, Ms. Brooks, was having trouble with one of her students. The teacher asked, "Harry, what's your problem?" Harry answered, "I'm too smart for the 1st grade. My sister is in the 3rd grade and I'm smarter than she is! I think I should be in the 3rd grade too!" Ms. Brooks had had enough. She took Harry to the principal's office. While Harry waited in the outer office, the teacher explained to the principal what the situation was. The principal told Ms. Brooks he would give the boy a test. If he failed to answer any of his questions he was to go back to the 1st grade and behave. She agreed. Harry was brought in and the conditions were explained to him and he agreed to take the test. Principal: "What is 3 x 3?" Harry: "9." Principal: "What is 6 x 6?" Harry: "36." And so it went with every question the principal thought a 3rd grader should know. The principal looks at Ms. Brooks and tells her, "I think Harry can go to the 3rd grade" Ms. Brooks says to the principal, "Let me ask him some questions." The principal and Harry both agreed. Ms. Brooks asks, "What does a cow have four of that I have only two of?" Harry, after a moment: "Legs." Ms. Brooks: "What is in your pants that you have but I do not have?" The principal wondered why would she ask such a question! Harry replied: "Pockets." Ms. Brooks: "What does a dog do that a man steps into?" Harry: "Pants." Ms. Brooks: What starts with a C, ends with a T, is hairy, oval, delicious and contains thin, whitish liquid?" Harry: "Coconut." The principal sat forward with his mouth hanging open. Ms. Brooks: "What goes in hard and pink then comes out soft and sticky?" The principal's eyes opened really wide and before he could stop the answer, Harry replied, "Bubble gum." Ms. Brooks: "What does a man do standing up, a woman does sitting down and a dog does on three legs?" Harry: "Shake hands." The principal was trembling. Ms. Brooks: "What word starts with an 'F' and ends in 'K' that means a lot of heat and excitement?" Harry: "Firetruck." The principal breathed a sigh of relief and told the teacher, "Put Harry in the fifth-grade, I got the last seven questions wrong.

Found this precious girl at Liberty Park tonight. No collar and her nails were ridiculously long before I cut them. So long, she was walking funny and I think in pain :/ Does anyone recognize her? I can't keep her and I don't know if the rescue organization I work for has room for her, so I might be looking for a home for her, unless we find her owner of course. Whoever takes her would have to take her to the vet for shots and a full check-up. I'm not sure if she's been spayed either.
